First thoughts on Salesforce new UI

Looks like Winter 16 brings a new user interface. Here is what we saw so far.

New Sidebar

Sidebar still appears collapsible. Note new icons for Opportunities. Clicking on an item in the sidebar is equivalent to clicking on a tab in the current interface ie it gives you access to views.

New Record Layout

The most differences are found on the record layout. In the screenshot below: Contact.

 

At the top, we find a summary of the record. Then the stage list with the current stage highlighted (yes you are able to change the stage right there without needing to click Edit). Making the list of Stages apparent bring clarity in the process. As a user, I understand that my next step is to move the Lead to “Contacted”. Neat!

Right below, you have 4 options:

  • Details: the full record details.
  • Related:  the related lists.
  • Activity: this is the default, it basically shows open activities and activity history related list.
  • Collaborate: chatter feed.

When the Activity is select (default), you are able to Log a call, create a Task or an Event and send an Email. This is one click faster than the current version.

Finally, all open tasks are listed under the section “Next Steps”. To complete a task, you just check if off using the check box.

Address Auto Complete

That is convenient as it should minimize address typos.

Reports

The report results look different. Note the ‘Total Records’ at the top (rather than the bottom). Also filters are now to the right.
